Today's Thoughts:  Name Above All Names

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11

One day we will all bow before Jesus and confess that He is Lord. Every tongue, tribe and nation will be on their knees giving glory to God the Father, just by speaking the name of Jesus Christ. That day is coming and what a glorious day that will be! There will be no more denying who Jesus is and no more discriminating against those who boldly speak His name. As I think about that day, I wonder how I will feel. Will I bow before my Lord in confidence or in shame? What am I doing here on this earth today that will impact how I will feel when that awesome day comes?

I read an article that discussed the number of times our current President of the United States professed the name of Jesus in comparison to the former President who preceded him. Interestingly, over a 4 year period, the former President made more public references to Jesus than our current President. However, there is a difference in the public scrutiny between the two. Little attention seemed to be paid to the former President, but our current one has received much criticism for his beliefs and faith. After reading this article, I realized that just speaking the name of Jesus or God means very little unless it is spoken from a heart of true faith and conviction. And people know the difference. For those who do not fully believe in Christ (even if they profess a faith in "God"), it is okay to talk about Him and even quote scriptures, but a true believer speaks from a heart of sincerity, which carries a power from on high. That's when people listen.

As Christians we must stand on the truth of who Jesus is. Though we all fall short, we need to pray for boldness in professing and speaking His name. It is only by His grace that we will bow before Him in that day. Pray today for opportunities to witness to those who do not know Jesus, or are confused as to who He is. There is just something about that name, Jesus, especially when spoken from a heart of love and true devotion. Whenever you have the opportunity (and God will give it to you if you ask Him) to tell someone about Jesus, let your passion come through your words. If we profess Jesus before others, then He will profess us to the Father. (Luke 12:8)
