Theme: Take Time to Know God’s Character

The Bible Teaches Us About the Nature of God

Scripture: Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:12-13 ESV).

Play: Ask your kids to pretend that you’re handing them a ball. As you describe the ball, they should imagine how it looks and what it might feel like, and then guess what kind of ball it is. For example, what kind of ball is small, fuzzy and bounces well? (A tennis ball)

Talk: You can recognize different types of balls because you’ve seen them before, know how they feel and what they do. We can learn what God is like by reading about things He has done. For example we read in the Bible that Hannah (1 Samuel 1:1-19) and King Hezekiah (2 Kings 19:9-20) both cried out to God, and He heard them. Those stories teach us that God hears us when we pray. And when the Israelites doubted God after they left Egypt, God forgave them (Numbers 14:1-20). This story teaches us that God is forgiving. What other Bible stories can you think of that show us about God’s nature?

Pray: Ask God to help you see what He is like as you read the Bible.
