Taste and See for Yourself
This devotional was written by Jim Burns

Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4

When you've tasted all that the Lord has to offer it is difficult to settle for rubbish. If God is our Creator and Christ is who the Bible claims him to be, then you can come into His fullness and not be disappointed. When confronted with the truth, even skeptics who doubt the Christian faith respond to the goodness and knowledge of God.

Lew Wallace was a famous literary critic and a general during the Civil War. He believed that Christianity kept people in ignorance, fear, superstitions, and bondage. One Sunday morning while riding a train he observed hundreds of people going to Sunday worship. He decided to research and write a book that would forever liberate Christian people from their ignorance and superstitions. For two years Wallace studied in leading libraries of Europe and America to disclaim Christianity forever. He finished the study and began to write. He wrote his first chapter, and as he was laboring over his second chapter he suddenly found himself on his knees saying, "My Lord and my God!" The One whom he had set out to disprove had captured him. Lew Wallace became a devout follower of Christ and authored the great Christian classic Ben Hur. "Taste and see that the Lord is good!"

GOING DEEPER:

  1. After reading Psalm 37:4 what do you think it means to "delight yourself in the Lord?"
  2. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or seek knowledge about your faith in God. As you search and experience God, you will only become more convinced of His faithfulness and reality in your life.
