Today's Scripture

For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. - 1 Corinthians 15:56-57 NLT

Thoughts for Today

Jesus conquered death and removed its sting!

Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah "will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. The Lord has spoken" (Isaiah 25:8 NIV). Jesus won this victory for us when he died on the cross for our sins and rose again on the third day. Before going to the cross, he said this: “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life" (John 5:24 NLT).

Jesus gives us victory over sin and death!

Consider this …

More about death . . .

At death the body returns to dust. Since Adam was created from the dust of the earth and Eve was made from Adam's side, after they fell in sin, God declared that after death the human body would return to dust: "For you were made from dust, and to dust you will return” (Genesis 3:19 NLT).

Death involves laying aside the body, the taking down of a temporary tent.

For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands. 2 Corinthians 5:1 NLT

Our bodies will return to dust, but for those who trust Jesus as Lord and Savior, God will make an everlasting body! A perfect one. One that will never hurt or weaken or age.

Jesus says those who believe in him have already passed from death into life! He has conquered the grave!

Prayer

Father, thank you for Jesus. Thank you for forgiving my sins. Thank you that I don't have to be afraid of death because Jesus has conquered it. In his name . . .
