Be Content

Today's Scripture

"Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth." - (1 Timothy 6:6 NLT)

Thoughts for Today

God tells us he is deeply involved in each of our lives. He blesses us in ways that have nothing to do with our marital state. In the end, God's presence and blessings are the most important positives we will ever discover.

Instead of waiting until we are married . . . or until we get the ideal job . . . or until we can follow a particular dream, we need to be content—today.

"Godliness with contentment is itself great wealth."

Consider this …

Paul found contentment in every circumstance.

Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:11-13 NLT)

Don't miss the blessings and opportunities of today by focusing on the hopes and fears of tomorrow. Follow Paul's example by being content and making the most of every circumstance.

"Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today." (Matthew 6:33-34 NLT)

Prayer

Father, I thank you for today. Although I know you want us to plan and set goals, help me focus on what you want me to do today, trusting that you will bring together your plans for me in your way and in your time. In Jesus' name . . .

The Single Christian: Living as One in a World of Twos by Dr. Elizabeth Holland. In a world where everyone seems to have a mate, it is difficult to live life as a single person. Whether you have never been married, are divorced or are widowed, this study is for you. In The Single Christian, Dr. Holland examines many of the different facets of singleness, from rejection; bitterness and unforgiveness; loneliness; to dating; single parenting and the positives of being single. Note: This curriculum was written especially for small groups, and we encourage people to use it that way. However, it can also be used effectively as a personal study for individuals.
