Ephesians 2:8-9

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Because your salvation is based on the finished work of Christ, there’s nothing you can do to earn it yourself and there’s nothing you can do to take it away!

The foundation of what we believe as Christians is that my righteousness or lack of it has nothing to do with my acceptance by God. What makes me acceptable to God is 100% the righteousness of Jesus Christ, credited to me by God when I put my faith in Him and what He did for me on the cross. My sin and guilt went to Jesus, and His righteousness came to me in God’s great exchange (see 2 Corinthians 5:21).

Sometimes we can feel so bad about sin in our lives that we think our sin negates our salvation. But we need to remember that our salvation never had anything to do with our own righteousness anyway. Our relationship with God is based on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ. Scripture affirms that once I become part of God’s family, I am “in Christ”.

God is reminding you today to rest in your relationship with Him. Live for God, not to earn your salvation, but out of deep gratitude for His gift of grace to you.
