And they said to me, “The remnant there in the province who had survived the exile is in great trouble and shame. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates are destroyed by fire.”

--Nehemiah 1:3

Back in Nehemiah’s day, the walls of a city were very important both practically and symbolically. They were used for protection and served as a way to let people in and to let people out.

The walls were also there for the purpose of separation…separating the people from the world. And they desperately needed to be rebuilt.

In the same way today, the walls of the Church of Jesus Christ are broken down! There is very little separation between us and the world anymore. And the walls need to be rebuilt!

It’s true in a marriage, in a family, and in business. Rebuilding is more difficult than building. But as those who are called to be separated from the world in our thoughts, actions, and speech, it’s time we worked to rebuild the walls in every area of our lives.

Today, I hope you’ll work to rebuild the walls that separate you from the world outside!

THE WALLS THAT SEPARATE US FROM THE WORLD NEED TO BE REBUILT.
