When the whirlwind passes by, the wicked is no more,

But the righteous has an everlasting foundation.

                                                --Proverbs 10:25

Joshua was a dad who rocked. He courageously led the children of Israel. They were on the verge of crossing into the promise land and establishing their foothold as a nation. The people repeatedly asked Joshua, “Can we go now?” And Joshua replied, “Yes, but wait just a moment. We need to settle something first.”

He said: “And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

It is with that kind of decision, dedication, and determination that we can be dads who build our lives and families rock solid today and for the future. There are three simple building materials you will need if you plan on laying a solid foundation and future that will last for your family.

The first material is to love by embracing your children and wife, expressing affection, giving encouragement, and enabling and equipping them. I love the definition that John Stock, Bible scholar and pastor from England, gave: “Love is the willingness to surrender that which has value in life, to enrich the life of another.”

The second building material needed is faith. Train and teach your family to follow the ways of the Lord. You see, genuine faith is not only professed, but it perseveres in action. You will be parenting one hundred years from now by the example and faith you left with your children and how they pass it on to theirs.

And finally, give them joy. When you build your home upon the Rock, fill it with His joy and your home will be the happiest place on earth. Build your house, life, and family upon Jesus Christ with love, faith, and joy. Rock for Jesus Christ and it will change everything about your family and future.

THE GREATEST GIFTS YOU CAN GIVE YOUR CHILDREN ARE LOVE,

FAITH, AND JOY IN THE HOME.
