For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which is due.

--Romans 1:26-27

According to FBI statistics, a rape occurs in America every six minutes. From 1960 until 1986, reported rapes were up 526 percent. Don’t you wonder how much of that parallels with the rise of the blatant sexuality that we’ve seen in our society in the past 50 years? I’m not just referring to raw pornography. I’m talking about some of the things that we see on the daily soaps, prime time shows, and heard in the lyrics of current music.

What used to shame us and what used to embarrass us, now struts down the main street of our world. Thousands of Americans acquire sexually transmitted diseases every day. Nothing surprises us anymore! Sexuality has become so carnal and so common that even we as believers sometimes just turn our heads. We’ve become accustomed to the darkness.

God’s precepts are clear concerning sexuality—the act is to remain between and man and woman committed to each other in the bonds and beauty of marriage. All other forms of immorality and sexuality are condemned in the Scripture. But even in Scripture, God gave certain individuals over to a jaded and perverted sexuality.

As a part of secular society, it becomes evident that man without God has an almost insatiable desire for immoral and elicited sexuality. But sexuality is a gift from God and should be cherished within the bonds of marriage. It is imperative that you teach your families and children of the importance of purity and sexuality according to God’s Word. Ask the Lord to keep you guarded from the immoral sexuality that is thrown at you and your family each day. Pray that God would help keep your thoughts and mind pure.
