“…In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.”

                                                          --Isaiah 30:15

What if there was no pause in life? If you were to sit down and read a book with no punctuation and no change of thought—it would start to rattle your brain after a while. You wouldn’t be able to process the content or let the author’s words mean something to you personally.

When there is no pause in life, it will never be what God intended for you. God is not in a hurry. Have you noticed that? As a matter of fact, over and over again in the Bible God says, “Wait on Me. … Wait on Me.”

Most people don’t like to wait—we are very impatient. When I drive up to an intersection and see a green light turn yellow, what do I do? I punch the gas pedal and try to make it through the light because I don’t like to wait. But don’t laugh at me, because I know that’s what most of you do too.

We tend to think that the yellow light means “hurry up and get through the intersection” when in fact it means “slow down, there could be danger ahead.” The problem is…we’re always in a hurry when God isn’t. It doesn’t mean we are to be lazy, but instead we are to take a breather and wait on the Lord to give us the next plan of action.

Today, take some time away from your busy schedule to listen to God and focus on His Word. And the next time you are sitting in church or Bible study, take notes and then go back to meditate on the truths you found in Scripture or ways in which the Holy Spirit spoke to your heart. Rest in Him and His Word.

GOD DOESN’T SPEAK TO YOU IN A BOOMING VOICE WHILE YOU’RE SPEEDILY HURRYING THROUGH LIFE. YOU CAN HEAR THE STILL, SMALL VOICE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT WHEN YOU TAKE SOME TIME TO STOP, REST, AND ACTUALLY LISTEN.
