…walk in the light as He is in the light… (1 John 1:7)

During a severe thunderstorm one summer night, the electricity went out in several houses throughout a small neighborhood. In one of those homes, a mother tucked her small son into bed by candlelight. She kissed him goodnight and headed toward the door. Used to the nightlight by his bed that was now temporarily out of order, the boy called out to her in a trembling voice, “Mommy, will you stay with me tonight?”

Smiling, the mother walked back over to his bed, gave him a warm, reassuring hug and said, “I can’t, dear. I have to sleep in Daddy’s room tonight.” A long silence followed and the mother could see the disappointment on the boy’s face. He finally said in a shaky voice, “The big sissy!”

Are you afraid of the dark? I’ll admit that I don’t like it either. That’s why I have nightlights in my house. Something about the light is refreshing and reassuring. There are even studies today that say people do better in life, emotionally and physically, during times of light.

Darkness is a part of life, and many of you have to walk through those dark times more than you’d like. You enter the darkness oftentimes unexpectedly with the next phone call, letter, or corner plunging you into the valley. The glorious news is that you have an eternal Light — Jesus Christ — to guide you if He is the Savior and Lord of your life.

During the storms of life, seek to find comfort in the Light that is always there, shining bright to lead you on. Ask the Lord to give you faith and hope in Him when traveling through the valleys, pray that God would give you the strength to take one day at a time, and praise Him all along the way.

KEEP THE LIGHT CLOSE WHEN TIMES OF DARKNESS FALL UPON YOU.
