You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies…

--Psalm 23:5

I heard about a man from New York City who came to Texas on a business trip. He went with the Texans out to a Mexican restaurant, and the locals couldn’t wait to see what the New Yorker was going to do since he’d never tasted or seen Mexican food.

The Texas businessmen ordered fajitas for all and laid all of the fixings out so the New Yorker could see his choices. The New Yorker looked at all the food before him, took a tortilla, and rubbed it all over his face. Now this is a true story!

When a banquet is set out before you, you need to learn how to properly enjoy it. God welcomes you and me to His table where blessings are spread out for all to have. Unfortunately, some Christians have never learned to enjoy those blessings.

In this passage, David portrays God as a host. Typical in the Middle East, shepherds who traveled frequently all across the land often needed a place for rest and refreshments. In that time, it was common hospitality for a good host to invite traveling nomads and even fugitives into the tent for relaxation and replenishment.

Just as it was customary back then, the Lord of love today invites you to join him at his table and take from what He offers. If you have not experienced salvation in Jesus Christ and you'd like to dine at His table, then right now believe that He died on the cross for your sins and ask Him to forgive your sins, be the Savior of your heart and life, and walk with you from this day forward in a relationship.

If you are already a believer, then enjoy the blessings God has given you—whether it be family, home, career, freedom, car, or whatever. Thank Him today for providing you with your needs and for always promising to take care of you no matter what.

COME AND DINE AT THE BANQUET TABLE OF THE LORD. EAT AND DRINK OF THE BLESSINGS HE HAS TO OFFER YOU.
