What the Christian life is really all about

April 5, 2012

“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.”

Matthew 6:5

Some years ago, I had the wonderful privilege to go over to Black Mountain, North Carolina, to spend the afternoon with Billy and Ruth Graham. They have a log cabin there in the mountains, and it’s just a beautiful place. And I spoke with Mr. Graham and Ruth for several hours about so many wonderful things. It was an amazing time.

As I drove away, I reflected on what I had experienced there. And perhaps the thing about Billy Graham I was most impressed with is that his spiritual life is not forced. It isn’t something that he does; it is not performance; it is reality.

It became clear to me that day that as God’s people, our spiritual lives have to become our reality. People in the church today have to stop performing in the Christian life and start truly living in a love relationship with Jesus Christ. They have to be authentically transformed by God’s Spirit and truly love His Word.

If I had one prayer for you today, it would be that your spiritual life would be authentic… that you wouldn’t be defined by how well you perform, but how well you truly live for Christ. That’s what the Christian life is all about!

DON’T PERFORM THE CHRISTIAN LIFE. LIVE AUTHENTICALLY THROUGH A FAITH RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST!
