For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh….

--Galatians 5:13

I want to dispel a modern myth today about the separation of church and state.

In our culture, too many people have bought into the misinformation that our founding fathers were seeking freedom from faith in government.

The architects of the Constitution did not want to establish a secular state, but rather one that would not be dominated by any one church. The separation of church and state DOES NOT mean the separation of God and government!

Regardless of how some revisionists are trying to rewrite our history, 50 of the 55 framers of the Constitution considered themselves to be born-again believers.

One of those, James Madison, our fourth president, said, “We have staked the whole future of American civilization not upon the power of government… upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves… to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God.”

In a 1783 circular to the states, George Washington, our first president, wrote, “I now make it my earnest prayer, that God would have you, and the State over which you preside, in his holy protection… to do Justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that Charity, humility and pacific temper of mind, which were the Characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed Religion, and without an humble imitation… we can never hope to be a happy Nation.”
You and I must stand up for the freedom for faith by praying for our leaders and our nation, teaching our children and grandchildren about America’s foundation of religious freedom, and by living a life that reveals the true freedom found in Christ!

LIVE BOLDLY FOR CHRIST AS A LIGHT TO AMERICA!
