Looking forward to a better tomorrow

February 7, 2011

Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water." And they filled them up to the brim. And he said to them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast." So they took it. When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom and said to him, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now."

John 2:6-10

I can't believe that this year, Deb and I will celebrate 41 years of marriage! And you know, over those wonderful years, I've learned what real love is. It's the kind of love that's still there when you've been looking at each other over a bowl of Shredded Wheat for 41 years!

And do you know why we have that kind of love? It's because we invited Christ to our wedding 41 years ago, and he's taught us how to love each other.

Here in John 2, we see Christ at another wedding. It's important to remember that this is Jesus' first miracle of his public ministry. So what's the point of this miracle?

Well, in New Testament times, weddings were a big deal. And if the master of the feast had run out of wine, it would have created a great deal of shame for him. So his strategy would be to buy just enough good wine to start with, and then get a bunch of cheap wine to serve after no one could tell what it tasted like anymore.

So when Jesus turned the water into good wine to serve at the end, he did it to show that God's best blessings were still to come. He was going to bring God's grace to a lost and broken world once and for all!

When you're in Christ, you can be confident that there's always a better tomorrow—that the best is yet to come. So, no matter your situation in life, trust in Christ to bless your faithfulness by giving you a better tomorrow.

IN THE CHALLENGES OF LIFE, TRUST THAT CHRIST WILL GIVE YOU A BETTER TOMORROW!
