Who controls your life?

February 28, 2013

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will…

Ephesians 1:3-5

As an American, I love the idea of choice. I like knowing that I can be the captain of my own ship and do what I want to do in life. That’s my birthright as an American. I have liberty flowing through my veins! Doesn’t that sound great? Sure it does!

So if it’s even suggested to many of us that we don’t have a choice to do something, we get all up in arms and resist that. But the truth is that we really can’t choose to do anything we want. I can’t choose to be 7 feet tall. I also can’t choose to run 50 miles per hour. I’m limited. And in much the same way, you and I only choose Jesus if He first chooses us.

We live in a world today in which we have humanized God and deified man. We think people have a choice to live their own lives in their own ways. But the biblical view is that God makes the final choice in all matters. And it’s that choice that brings maximum glory to Him!

When it comes to your eternal destiny, you’re not the captain of your own ship; God is. This should give those of us in Christ such comfort, knowing that since our salvation is completely up to God, we can never lose it. It’s a free gift! Thank God for that gift today.

WHEN IT COMES TO SALVATION, GOD IS THE CAPTAIN OF YOUR SHIP. THANK HIM FOR THE GIFT OF FAITH HE’S GIVEN YOU TODAY!
