Where to find the best advice for life

February 7, 2013

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12

If you’re a football fan like me, you’ve seen this situation play out many times: It’s 4th and 1 with just seconds to go on the clock. The next play will determine who wins and who loses. The offense sets up to run the play. Tensions are high and… the whistle blows. Timeout!

So what happened here? Well, the quarterback was getting ready to run a play that could determine the fate of the game. But he saw something in the defense he didn’t like. So he calls timeout and walks over to the sideline to talk to the head coach about the upcoming play. He doesn’t go talk to the water boy or the trainer. He gets advice from the right person!

One of the most destructive things a Christian can do is follow advice that isn’t biblically informed. Oh, it may sound good, but the truth is that following advice based on feelings or emotion can very often dig you into an even deeper hole!

So when you need advice, seek out those who are biblically wise. Don’t let emotion and what sounds good keep you from doing what’s right. The best kind of life is one that’s lived by the Word of God. That’s where real joy is found!

THE BIBLE IS WHERE REAL LIFE IS FOUND. SO SEEK BIBLICAL WISDOM IN TOUGH SITUATIONS, NOT WORLDLY ADVICE BASED ON EMOTIONS.
