“When your son asks you in time to come, ‘What is the meaning of the testimonies and the statutes and the rules that the LORD our God has commanded you?’”

--Deuteronomy 6:20

I love the old adage, “The best kind of teaching is as much caught as it is taught.” That’s certainly true with parenting. The most effective lessons can happen during the simple routines of life.

Sometimes, those priceless moments of sharing come while you’re watching television together, driving home after a baseball game, or struggling through a homework project.

Remember those unexpected times when your children are responsive and open? In those quiet moments together, you have the opportunity to teach them right and wrong based upon what’s actually happening in their life. That’s practical teaching.

If you, as mom or dad, are serious about your relationship with God, no matter what the situation or circumstance, your child will see faith as a reality. And if you are committed to living what you believe day in and day out, your children can see faith as practical.

Deuteronomy 6:7 says the practical teaching of God’s Word should be a part of your everyday life. “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”

Let your children see you obeying God’s commands and applying them to your life daily.

PRAY FOR GOD’S WISDOM AS YOU DAILY INFLUENCE YOUR CHILDREN.
