And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ…

--Philippians 1:9-10

The Scripture speaks directly to many different issues we’re faced with in everyday life. But there are some issues… some debatable issues… where we have to use the principles of Scripture to make good, wise decisions.

These four questions can help you determine God’s will when you’re making a decision.

Question #1: Is it constructive?

In 1 Corinthians 6:12, Paul says, “’All things are lawful for me,’ but not all things are helpful.” Paul is emphasizing that you and I need to focus our decisions on things that will help us grow in our Christian life and honor Christ.

Question #2: Is it controlling?

In the second part of 1 Corinthians 6:12, Paul says, “’All things are lawful for me,’ but I will not be enslaved by anything.” If anything might control you, stay away from it.

Question #3: Is it compassionate?

This is a “me” generation and we often make decisions based upon what “I need”… what “I want.” But love says we’re to make decisions based on what others need. If there’s anything in my life that would somehow cause a little one or weak one to fail or fall, I need to make my decision based on my compassion and care for them.

Finally, question #4: Is it consistent?

Is what you’re about to do consistent with your testimony to the world? As believers, you and I are to be passionate about seeing others come to faith in Jesus Christ, and we shouldn’t do anything to hinder someone from coming to Christ!

Hopefully these four questions will help you make godly decisions in your life, no matter what you may be facing!
