Living with the right perspective

July 7, 2011

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account.

Philippians 1:21-24

I heard about a girl who wrote her mom and dad an email from college. Here’s what it said:

Dear Mom and Dad, I’m sorry it’s been so long since I’ve contacted you. There was a horrible fire in my dorm, but a wonderful boy named Bill rescued me from the fire and kindly offered to share his apartment with me until the dorm is rebuilt.

He comes from a good family so I know you won’t be surprised when I tell you that we’re going to get married soon. In fact, since you always wanted a grandchild, you’ll be glad to know you’ll be grandparents next month!

Anyway, I love you and I’ll call soon.

Sarah

P.S.  Please disregard the above practice in fiction. There was no fire, I’m not pregnant, and I don’t even have a boyfriend. But I did get a “D” in French and I just wanted you to receive the news in the right perspective.

Isn’t it amazing what a change in perspective can do?! Things that seem like a huge deal on the surface, like a bad grade for example, become so insignificant when compared to more important issues.

You and I should live with the same eternal perspective Paul had in today’s passage, knowing that whatever happens, all that matters is that we’re in Christ. So as you live your life, remember that your perspective should be to honor Christ in everything you do.

LIVE YOUR LIFE WITH THE ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE OF HONORING CHRIST IN EVERYTHING YOU DO.
