Are your sins really gone for good?

March 11, 2013

And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

Colossians 2:13-14

Several months ago, a friend of mine in the IT business told me about a computer virus that once hit computers all over the world. There were several companies, in fact, who lost all of their data because of this virus. Essentially, the user would log in to his or her computer and find that the data which was there before had now been completely erased.

So I asked my friend, “So what happens to all that data? Where does it go?” And he told me, “It goes nowhere! It just disappears. All the records, files, everything… just gone!”

As I thought about what he told me, I began to consider what happens to the records of our sin when we come to the cross of Jesus Christ. By His death, He introduced a malfunction into that record that resulted in its complete elimination. It’s gone, and will never be recovered nor counted against us!

That’s what grace does… it takes the record of our sin and completely nullifies it so that we can never be held guilty for it. So if you’re in Christ, thank God for that reality today and live in the amazing freedom you’ve been granted by your faith in Jesus!

PRAISE GOD FOR THE WONDERFUL TRUTH THAT IF YOU’RE IN CHRIST, YOUR SINS ARE GONE AND WILL NEVER BE COUNTED AGAINST YOU!
