Trusting in God's call on your life

October 29, 2010

Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples… Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, "Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?" He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do. Philip answered him, "Two hundred denarii would not buy enough bread for each of them to get a little." One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him, "There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?" Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, about five thousand in number. Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated. So also the fish, as much as they wanted.

John 6:3-11

Have you ever accidentally touched a hot stove and burnt yourself? I have… and boy did it hurt. But I've never needed someone to tell me not to touch a hot stove because I remember it hurt the first time!

You see, when you observe something that leaves a memorable impression, you make decisions based upon that observation. If the stove burns, you don't touch it again!

Jesus had done many miracles right in front of the disciples. Yet when he wanted to feed the 5,000, Philip tells him that they don't have enough money.

Now it can be so easy to look at the disciples and wonder why they didn't trust Jesus in this situation. But do you trust him in similar situations?

You may not vocalize it, but I'll bet there are times in your life when you have the exact same attitude as Philip. God calls you to do something great and you start counting the money in your bank account. Maybe you've even come to the conclusion on your own that it can't be done, so you just give up.

But God wants you to place your faith in him to provide for you when he calls you to do something. Maybe he wants you to take some time away from work. Or he might be calling you to increase your giving.

Wherever God is calling you, it's your responsibility to step out in faith and trust him. He is your provider!

STEP OUT IN FAITH WHEN GOD CALLS YOU BECAUSE HE WILL PROVIDE.
