The permanence of your position in Christ

October 17, 2011

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will…

Ephesians 1:3-5

Do you remember those pick-up games of ball in the neighborhood when you would pick the best two players as captains to choose the teams? You would stand there waiting on one of them to choose you when finally, you were the last one and they’d say, “Go play left out!”

It’s never fun not getting chosen. It feels badly all the way through life when it seems that nobody chooses you to be a part of something great. But if you’re in Christ, God is saying to you, “I want you! I’ve chosen you to be My child!”

Now, the Bible is clear that you and I don’t decide to be a Christian. We don’t just make up our minds one day and say, “Well, today’s the day. I think I’ll believe in Jesus.” Instead, Jesus said, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him” (John 6:44). This is the undeniable truth of election.

The heart of mankind is marred by sin and rebellion. And because of this, no one seeks God (Romans 3:11). But God seeks and chooses all who are in Christ to have eternal life. This truth should both comfort and encourage as you come to a deeper understanding of the reality and permanence of your position in Christ!

IN CHRIST, REMEMBER THAT HE WHO CHOSE YOU IS FAITHFUL AND WILL NEVER LET YOU GO!
