The joy of giving

September 13, 2010

"And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength."

--Mark 12:30

What does your money say about whom and how you love? The widow who gave her all at the temple gave without reservation and with great love.

You see, our money is a powerful testimony to what we believe and why we believe. It says we're not just thinking about ourselves, but loving others.

When you think about it, we'd be foolish to say that we love our family and not provide for them. And in the same way it's ridiculous to say we love our fellow man and then not give to meet the needs of the poor and downtrodden. If we say we love our church but refuse to tithe, that's equally ludicrous.

We're contradicting ourselves if we say we love Christ and then don't share our monies in the proclamation of his message! When we love the Lord our God with all our heart and soul… and we love our neighbor as ourselves… we will be prompted by love to also give with great joy!

This was the widow's experience. The widow loved God and she gave willingly, extravagantly, extemporaneously, and sacrificially. And this is how you can give when you trust God… possess great love… and place your hope in him.

WE'RE CONTRADICTING OURSELVES IF WE SAY WE LOVE CHRIST AND THEN DON'T SHARE OUR MONIES IN THE PROCLAMATION OF HIS MESSAGE!
