How not to pray

September 18, 2009

"And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others…."

--Matthew 6:5

Several years ago, a book called The Secret was one of the bestselling books in the United States. For just $23.95, you could learn the secret, they say, that could change your life!

Well, today… absolutely free of charge… I will tell you the secret that will change your life now and for eternity. The real secret is prayer and understanding to whom we are praying.

You see, you and I are just like the disciples who walked with Jesus. We all know we should pray, but the question is, "How are we to pray?" And that's why Jesus provided some very specific instruction like today's verse.

In no uncertain terms, Jesus told his followers do not be like the religious people of the day who sought personal attention through their prayers.

The truth is God doesn't answer your prayers based on your eloquence or lack of it. God answers your prayers because he is your Father in heaven, and because you are his child. He seeks an authentic relationship with you.

Pray today. Come to him as his child laying down every pretense. He wants to know you. And he wants to answer your prayers.

COME TO GOD AS HIS CHILD, LAYING DOWN EVERY PRETENSE.

Pause: Resting in God Instead of Stressing Out

Dear Friend,

Do the words rested... peaceful... and refreshed describe you today? Or do the words stressed... rushed... and pressured better describe your way of life?
If you're like most Christians, you'd probably have to admit those last three words more accurately describe your life most of the time!
The good news is that it doesn't have to be this way... even when your life is one big pressure-cooker. And in my new book, Pause: Resting in God Instead of Stressing Out, I'll show you why.
Based on the principles from Paul's letter to the Philippians and Psalm 23, Pause: Resting in God Instead of Stressing Out will help you find true peace and rest in a world that is anything but peaceful and restful. It's the perfect "pause" button you need!
