Crowning Christ Lord

Christ may indeed be Lord, but for many of us, we still desire to be our own king. This series explores four practical areas of our lives that can be surrendered to the loving reign of Jesus Christ. In response to crowning Christ Lord, there is a joy in being generous with others as Jesus is with us.

Celebrating the Joy of Changed Lives

D.L. Moody: A Man for Our Times

Dwight L. Moody most assuredly was a man for his times, but thanks to his legacy, he is a man for our times as well. He ministered in what is known as the Gilded Age, when the industrial revolution fueled economic growth and investors were striving to make their millions. These were the days of Marshall Field, the Rothchilds, and Cyrus McCormick. As for Moody himself, he left his humble home in Massachusetts, came to Chicago to seek his fortune, and excelled as a shoe salesman. He could have sought to be remembered for his wealth, but he chose a different path. He traded worldly success for significance, and even today is still remembered as one of the world’s most beloved evangelists. We have all benefited from his lasting impact and influence both in America and abroad.

When Moody died on December 22, 1899, the thousands who gathered for his funeral were told:

Though he made no inventions and had no discoveries, though he wrote no poems, painted no pictures and led no triumphant armies, this unlettered son of a poor woman in New England… made an impression on the world that this dying century has seldom seen.

O Come Let Us Adore Him! Finding Time to Adore God in a Busy World

We’ve sung the words a thousand times: “O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant… O come let us adore Him.” We envy the shepherds who actually saw the baby Jesus, and returned with a message of joy that pierced the midnight air. We can’t join them in Bethlehem, but thankfully, we can adore Jesus right where we are, for today He is at the right hand of the Father. That’s why the invitation is to all of us—“O come let us adore Him.”

But how do we “adore Him?”

Silent Night, Holy Night

Several years ago Pastor Lutzer preached a series of messages on the Carols of Christmas. So, we have asked him to tell us the story of how Silent Night came to be written and how it became the world’s most beloved Christmas carol. Here is his reply:

Who Can You Trust?

The news that Ted Haggard had to resign from his church in Colorado because of sexual immorality has touched all of us very deeply. Whether we knew him or not, many of us knew of him and the great work that God had done through him in the past. We're praying regularly for him and his family as they endure a crisis that can scarcely be imagined.
