Marriage & Husbands

Marriage is a gift from God, and with that gift comes responsibility. Marriage like a puzzle involves over 20,000 different decisions and with all of those decisions that need to be made conflict can arise. Men are known to be the ones who make excuses when challenges come up in relationships. But as men of God, husbands are to take the truth of God and put it into practice. Men are to sacrifice themselves and their agenda to their wives.

This article briefly outlines a biblical perspective on marriage that Dr. Ed Young points out in his sermon you can watch below.

The Bible makes it very clear how marriage should operate and in Ephesians, Paul urges husbands to give themselves up to their wives much like Christ gave himself up on the cross.

Ephesians 5:25-27 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

Show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life.

Men are the leaders in marriage and as such, husbands need to take that responsibility seriously. “The success of a marriage is primarily on the male.” See what else Dr. Ed Young has to say on what every husband needs to know in their marriage.

God’s Word provides a clear picture of the husband’s role in the intimate, personal and dynamic relationship that is Christian marriage. When husbands embrace their responsibility, they experience the privilege of loving and leading as men of God.

1 Peter 3:7 Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

The word “weaker,” in that verse doesn’t mean mentally or emotionally insignificant, it means physically. Wives are capable to accomplish anything, especially with God on their side. It also points out to make no mistake that wives are loved by God just as much as husbands are, both as children of God. Husbands are to be aware of their role in marriage and support their wives with the respect they deserve as a sister in Christ.

Further in Ephesians 5 husbands are to give to their wives a sanctifying life and a beautifying love. As Christ presents the body of believers as perfect before the Lord. Husbands likewise are to make their wives spotless by encouraging them and building them up.

Paul commands husbands in a straightforward manner on how they should conduct their marriage. It’s as if he knows how men think by the way he makes his directions so clear. Paul certainly knows how men should be thinking in their marriage and every man should act on the commands of Ephesians 5. Take them seriously, prayerfully, and with patience, husbands can have a successful union with their wives.
