Cracking the Shell - Beloved Women - May 25, 2023

READ: “But the Lord said to him, ‘Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel” (Acts 9:15 ESV)

TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: If you have ever eaten anything with a shell, like nuts or shellfish, you know that it takes some work to get to the good stuff and the process can be downright messy.  A shell may be difficult to crack but once inside we may find that there is a hidden treasure. 

Paul, also known as Saul, was an enemy of the early church who threatened and imprisoned believers.  He was on his way to do just that when he was blinded by a light on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:1-4).  Paul was a hardened man but he had tremendous gifts of communication and faith.  God saw beyond his hardened shell and saw him as an instrument to bring his message to His people. 

When sharing the gospel with others, we may come across those who appear hardened.  It may seem like an impossible, messy task to crack the shell and to find the hidden treasure.  We should never give up on those we are trying to reach for Christ. Underneath a hardened shell is a chosen instrument that God can and will use for His glory. After all, God cracked through our shells to use us.

PRAY: Father, I pray that I will be Your chosen instrument to bring Your message of forgiveness and redemption to others.  I pray that hearts and minds will be open to Your word and that all of my gifts will be used for Your glory.  In Jesus Christ’s name, I pray. Amen.
