Gaining Focus on God in a World of Distractions – Beloved Women – December 19, 2019

READ

“But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:30 ESV)

TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT

When Peter walked out on water, he was focused on Christ.  It was a  focus that enabled him to do the impossible.  As soon as he looked away, he started to sink. Distraction, fear, and doubt caused him to lose sight of Jesus, his very source of strength, and start to sink. His sinking looks a lot like us when we start to lose focus on God.

Losing passion and discipline to seek God doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a slow process filled with distractions, that before we know it, take our eyes off Christ just as Peter did. However, as Peter began to sink, he called out to Jesus for help. The Bible tells us immediately Jesus reached out and rescued Peter. If you’ve found yourself waist deep in distraction, fear and doubt that has caused you to lose focus on God, I encourage you to look up and call on God. We may lose our grasp on God, but He will never lose His grasp on us.

PRAY

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness, even when I am unfaithful. May I always keep my focus on You. In Jesus Christ Name I pray, Amen.

REFLECT

Are you staying focused on Jesus in this season of your life, or are distractions holding your gaze?

SHARE

We may lose our grasp on God, but He will never lose His grasp on us.
