Reverberating Sin – Beloved Women – December 5, 2018

READ

Then they said to him, “What shall we do to you, that the sea may quiet down for us?” For the sea grew more and more tempestuous. He said to them, “Pick me up and hurl me into the sea; then the sea will quiet down for you, for I know it is because of me that this great tempest has come upon you.”-  Jonah 1:11-12 ESV

TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT

Right after Israel’s victory in the battle of Jericho, the Israelites suffered a defeat which resulted in the death of 36 Israelites. Joshua was so distraught by this that he asked God why He would bring them over the Jordan just to destroy them. God’s answer pointed to sin in the camp.

The sin of one man, Achan, caused the Lord’s anger to burn against them. As a result, they couldn’t stand before their enemies. In Jonah 1: 11 - 12, Jonah also came to recognize how his sin affected those around him.

There may be times in our lives when we are tempted to ignore the inevitable consequences for our sin in order to enjoy temporary pleasures. We may take lightly the seriousness of the separation from God that results from our sin. What we must remember in those moments is that sin is harmful to us and others, however, God extends His grace to empower you to overcome through Jesus Christ.

PRAY

Father God, I thank You for your grace and your mercy. I’m sorry I have taken them for granted. What a
tremendous gift You have given me in the blood of Jesus! Right now I confess __________ to You and I repent. Please help me to walk in your way so I don’t offend You or bring harm to myself or others. Thank you for grace and forgiveness through Your Son Jesus Christ. In the name of Jesus, I pray. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

REFLECT

Is there a secret sin that you are holding on to that is creating distance in your relationship with God and potentially bringing harm to yourself and others around you? Who else might be affected by your sin – your husband, children, or best friend?
