The Pretty and Necessary - Beloved Women – March 7, 2019

TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT

A few months ago, I came across a piece of clothing that said, “Pretty Necessities” on the tag.

The truth is, many of us spend our lives chasing the pretty. We chase after earning the most money, having the nicest shoes, the best house, and more. We want the glitz so that we can feel like we are walking in our “abundance.” We typically aren’t as excited about the necessary. The hard work, overcoming addictions or letting go of toxic friendships are the necessities that we hate to admit we must commit to.

In my journey, I’ve learned that most things that are pretty are not necessary. Furthermore, what is necessary is not always “pretty.”

We must reach a place where we contend for opportunities to strengthen us spiritually just as much as we yearn for the tangible things. God is more concerned with our heart condition than He is with lavishing us with stuff that will one day perish.

PRAY

God, I thank You that are a forgiving Father. I repent for the times I have become so caught up in receiving that I have forgotten to focus on giving all of myself to you. Teach me to desire what’s necessary, even when it doesn’t come easy. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
