Why Love? – Beloved Women – September 21, 2020

READ: “So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” (1 Corinthians 13:13 ESV)

TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: This verse is recited at many weddings. Faith, hope, and love abide within our faith. Together, these three elements make up the trinity of our faith: God is the founder of our faith; the Holy Spirit provides us hope, and Jesus teaches us about love. We soon learn that as a child, we can’t live without love; as an adult, we can’t live without hope; faith makes these both possible for us. So now, let’s look at why love is considered the greatest.

We get a clue as to why love is most important in John 13:35: “By this, all people will know that you are my disciples if you have a love for one another.” Love is visible for the world to see. Of all three virtues, the world watches our love in action. All the commandments of the Old Testament reflect the one word, LOVE. First, we must love our God. But then love makes us not want to kill our neighbor or to cheat or steal or to lie. Each of the Ten Commandments becomes accomplished when we love each other. Love is our most significant action of faith.

PRAY: Loving Father, teach me Your ways of love. Help me to use love to give others faith and hope in You only. Forgive me for the times that I did not respond in love to those around me. I put my trust in You for today and every day. In Christ’s name, I pray, Amen.

REFLECT: Do the people around you know you belong to Christ because of the love you share?

SHARE: Without love, a person will never thrive. They will lose faith and hope. Love binds our faith and hope together.
