The Outcome?

Daniel 12:5-13

Fronzel, one of my Southern Bible students last semester, is continuing his studies, and before chapel he was all excited, dressed in his New Orleans Jersey. “The Saints have the Cowboys tonight!”

This afternoon as I share my thoughts I don’t know the outcome of the big NFC game tonight, but as you read these words, it’s history. You know who won. It’s exciting to not know the outcome of a game of football before the kickoff, but it’s not comforting if we’re in the midst of intense suffering and pain and we don’t know how it will turn out. The bigger question is: “What will be the outcome when the most intense time of tribulation on earth reaches its climax?” That’s the question Daniel asked his angelic interpreters as he closes his book.

“Then I, Daniel, looked and there by the river (the Tigris) two other angels were standing, one on this side and the other on the opposite bank. One said to the man clothed in linen who remained high above the waters in the middle of the river, ‘How long before the end of these extraordinary events?’ The man clothed in linen, the one standing above the waters, raised his right hand and his left hand to the heavens, and I heard him swear by the One who lives forever and ever, ‘For a time, times, and half a times. When the strength of the holy people has finally been broken, all these things will be completed.’

I heard but I did not understand. So I asked, ‘My lord, what will be the outcome of all this?’ He answered, ‘Daniel, go on living your life for these things are closed and sealed until the time of the End. Many will be sifted, cleansed, and refined, but the wicked will continue to be wicked. None of the wicked will understand, but those who have insight will understand.

From the time that the daily sacrifice is abolished and the abomination that causes ruin is set up, there will be 1,290 days. Blessed is the one who waits for and reaches the end of the 1,335 days.

But now as for you, keep on walking with God until the end of your days, and then at the End, you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance.”  Daniel 12:5-13

The angel makes it clear that the time, times and a half of time, the length of Antichrist’s attack against God’s people during the Great Tribulation, will last 1,290 days or three and half years. Then evidently Jesus, the Son of God, will take another 45 days to set up his capital in Jerusalem and begin his thousand-year reign. Any of us who humbly open ourselves to God’s point of view as he reveals the outcome of history and in whom we need to trust will be prepared when Jesus sets up his throne. And we will sing together,

“He rules the world with truth and grace

And makes the nations prove

The glories of His righteousness

And wonders of His love,

 And wonders of His love,

And wonders, wonders, of His love.

Joy to the world!”

LORD Jesus, I can hardly wait till the end of all this present times tribulations. Thanks when our strength is broken, your victory is won.
