Theme: Let God Comfort You

God Helps Us Comfort Others

Scripture: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4 ESV)

Play: Say an injury (cut finger, etc.) while tapping your knees twice. The next person says a way to make the injured person feel better (get a Band-Aid) while clapping hands twice. Then that person begins with a different injury. Keep it up until someone breaks the rhythm.

Talk: Everybody gets hurt from time to time. When we scrape a knee or cut a finger, a bandage and a hug can help comfort us. But sometimes it’s our heart that hurts, not our body. Maybe a friend was unkind or the school day was rough. When that happens, we can talk to God about our troubles, and He will comfort us and help our hearts heal. Then when others have sad times, God helps us comfort them with the same comfort He has given us (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). How can you help your friends when their hearts are hurting?

Pray: Ask God to help you comfort others when their hearts are hurting in the same way He has comforted you.
