And they sang in a mighty chorus: “The Lamb is worthy—the Lamb who was killed. He is worthy to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing.” - Revelation 5:12

In this scene in Revelation, all of heaven joins in a chorus of praise to Christ, the Lamb. Imagine a choir of glorious angels numbering “thousands and millions” (Revelation 5:11). Surely this is a song worth hearing!

Who is the Lamb? He is Christ, the one seated on the throne. What is he “worthy” of? Christ alone is “worthy to open the scroll and break its seven seals” (Revelation 5:5). In other words, Christ can initiate the end of history and usher in the kingdom of God. He proved himself worthy because he was a perfect man, he died to conquer sin and death, and he rose again in victory. Only Christ conquered evil, so he alone is worthy to set in motion the beginning of the end of evil’s reign!

For whom did Christ die? For whom did he conquer sin and death? For you and for me. To him we were worth dying for. The provision was himself—the Lamb, who died for you. The Lamb is worthy—the Lamb who was killed. He is worthy because of what he did for us—saving us and making us fit for heaven. You have been made worthy because of the Lamb, who is “worthy to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing” (Revelation 5:12). We should fall down and worship with all of heaven!
