Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.

                         (Luke 2:20)

Who was there? There were shepherds, sheep, cattle, and a mother and father. The Magi had gold, myrrh, and frankincense.

All of this becomes a grand image of the entire creation—created heavenly beings, earthly bodies, and demonic powers—kneeling down before the presence of the Eternal King. This is the advent of Christ. He came in the past, laid Himself on the doorstep of the world’s heart, and enlarged the responsibilities of everyone who would receive Him in their midst.
