Do You Know What's Next?

By Skip Heitzig

Someone once said we should all be concerned about the future because we're going to have to spend the rest of our lives there. That's good advice.

People have always been fascinated with what the future holds. But only the Bible tells us about what's next for our world. The book of Revelation specifically contains more details about the end times and the coming of Christ than any other book of the Bible.

Revelation is also the only book of the Bible that has a direct and unique promise of blessing to those who read it, hear it, and do it: "Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near" (Revelation 1:3; see also Revelation 22:7).

Blessed means oh, how happy. Maybe you're thinking, Wait a minute—I've read enough of Revelation to know there's a lot of catastrophe and destruction in it, but not a lot of joy. Keep reading, because here's what you find at the end of Revelation: we win because Jesus wins. And because Jesus wins, Satan loses.

Now, a lot of people hear that, but they don't heed it—they don't keep it. The real joy comes when you decide to keep it, as the verse says. And how do you keep the book of Revelation? By living in the light of eternity. By having less and less grasp on the things of this world and letting them control you less and less.

Look at it this way: every tomorrow has two handles—the handle of faith and the handle of anxiety. Too many people grab on to the handle of anxiety. But prophecy of the future such as you find in Revelation will move you to grab the handle of faith as you realize, I serve a God who knows the end from the beginning and calls things before they happen as though they're past. I pray you will be moved more and more to trust that great God this week.
