Psalm 63:6

“When I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night.”

Finish your day on purpose!

David made it a habit to think about God in the evening. The NLT version puts it this way: “I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night.”

As we read the Psalms, we get the sense that late at night David was delighting in his relationship with the Lord.

Psalm 17: 3 “You have tried my heart, you have visited me by night, you have tested me, and you will find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress.”

Psalm 42: 8 “By day the Lord commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.”

Psalm 92: 1- 2 “It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High; to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night.”

Before you go to sleep, be intentional about thinking of God. Finish your day on purpose. Look for the good things God did in your life. Remember him upon your bed. Meditate on him when you put your head on the pillow.

As you do this, at night God will visit you. And there he will put a new song in your spirit, and there you will be filled with gratitude and fall a little more in love with your Creator. There you will be filled with peace so that you can rest. And there you will gain strength for the day to come.
