Taking God Seriously

Should we take God seriously. I know that’s a stupid question to ask, in a way, but I’m asking it anyway because it seems to me that a lot of people really don’t—they really don’t take God very seriously. Dr. Laura, I think it was, who said that the First Commandment reveals that our relationship with God is not casual—it’s rather covenantal. And I am persuaded that a lot of people take God very casually, and I want to explain to you what I mean. If you’d turn to the 50th psalm:

“The mighty God, even the Lord, has spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun to the going down thereof” (Psalm 50:1 AKJV).

God has spoken and he’s called the whole world, “Come and listen.”

“Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has shined. Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him” (Psalm 50:2–3 AKJV).

Now, I want you to think about this for a moment. We’re dealing with someone here who could blink his eyes and start the Big Bang. It was just about like that. God spoke the word, the Big Bang happened, and out of that comes a universe that is (I think they now say) 13 to 14 billion light years across. That’s who we’re talking about here—with that kind of power. But there is coming a time when God will come, not quietly, but in a storm of fire devouring before him—very stormy round about him. The people who assembled before God at Mount Sinai, and actually heard the Ten Commandments spoken down off the mountain, got a sample of what this looked like.

About Born to Win

Born to Win is the radio ministry of Christian Educational Ministries (CEM). CEM is a service ministry with two major goals, first, to share the Gospel with the world and make disciples for Jesus Christ and secondly to teach those disciples of Jesus all that He commanded His disciples to do (Matthew 28:19-20). Paul later expanded on this in his last letter to Timothy:

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be proficient and equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:17 from KJV and NRSV).

CEM was founded to serve the public, individual Christians of every stripe, and community based churches in every tradition. We are an independent, nondenominational ministry.

About Ronald L. Dart

Ronald L. Dart (1934–2016) was a gifted teacher of the Word of God. People around the world have come to appreciate Ron’s easy style, his non-combative approach to explaining the Bible, and the personal, almost one-on-one method of explaining what’s going on in the world in the light of the Bible.

People say they get hooked on Ron’s depth of insight into the Bible and appreciate the unique gift for clarity and simplicity that enable him to hold an audience. His listeners don’t want to miss a word this broadcaster has to say and they want their community to hear it as well.

Mr. Dart was born to young parents on a farm just south of Harrison, Arkansas. His father worked for the railroad and also sang bass with the Melody Four Quartet. He started school in a one room schoolhouse in Gaither, Arkansas and finished high school in Houston, Texas where he met his wife to be, Allie Driver. He joined the Navy in September of 1952 and earned the rating of petty officer first class in four years.

After the Navy, Ron attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas for two years, and Ambassador College for two years, getting a bachelor’s degree. Ron served as a pastor of a church, and returned to college to get his Master’s Degree. Then he went to the University of Texas, in Austin and did work towards his doctor’s degree in communications.

It is through his continued studies in theology and communications that Ron’s gift for teaching the Word of God became evident. He has taught Old Testament Survey, Epistles of Paul, and public speaking. He has CDs of sermons he has given on virtually every book in the Bible. After retiring from teaching and church administration in 1995 he started Christian Educational Ministries and the Born to Win radio program.
