The world has never had room for Jesus. In Bethlehem, they begrudged Him a place to be born, so He was born in a cattle stall. In Jerusalem, they gave Him a cross on which to die and buried Him in a borrowed tomb. In Nazareth, they belittled Him and called Him just a carpenter's son. I could go on and on.
It wasn't by chance that the much of the world has found little room for the Lord Jesus Christ. Isaiah 53:3 prophesied this: "He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from Him; He was despised, and we esteemed Him not."
There's still little room for the Lord Jesus Christ. For example, there's no room for the Lord Jesus in the governments of this world and even of this nation. The United States of America was founded on the Judeo-Christian basis. And yet under the guise of separation of church and state, we have secularized America and taken away our Christian foundation. There are those who don't want to call the days surrounding the Lord's birthday "Christmas Holidays." Instead, they want to call it "Winter Break."
There's no room for Jesus in our institutions of learning. There's room for evolution, Bible criticism, New Age ideas, and humanism, but no room for the Lord Jesus. Our schools teach how young people can avoid AIDS, but they cannot learn the Ten Commandments that teach sexual chastity. Jeremiah 4:22 says, "For My people is foolish, they have not known Me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge."
Here in America, I see little room for the Lord Jesus even in the world's religions. Some religious institutions deny His miracles, virgin birth, bodily resurrection, the inspiration of His infallible Word. Some even deny His claim to be the only Savior of mankind.
Do you know what will happen this Christmas season? Drunkenness and adultery will occur in nearly every neighborhood. Somebody who normally would not drink, will get drunk and do you know what he'll say? After all, it's Christmas.
Obscene and irreverant Christmas cards are flying off the shelves. In many churches there's often a let down in attendance, offerings, and evangelism. The heroes of the Christmas season are Tiny Tim, Rudolph, Frosty and a plump, red faced, man named Santa.
Now, you may say, "Everybody loves the baby Jesus." Well, sure they do. Who can't get dewey-eyed and sentimental about the birth of a baby? But, most don't understand the real meaning of Christmas. Jesus' virgin birth, His virtuous life, vicarious death, and visible return are one seamless garment.
With gratitude, joy, and full surrender, we absolutely must make room for the Lord Jesus Christ in our hearts and in our lives. If you want to find the Lord Jesus this Christmas, let me tell you how to find Him.
There are a lot of lonely people at Christmas. You may be lonely. Everybody else is going to parties and you're not invited. Everybody else seems to have a house full of loved ones and you are by yourself. Christmas is supposed to be the happiest time of the year, but for you, it may be the saddest. I have a word for you, Jesus is here. And His name is Emmanuel — God with us. God loves you. He knows all about you and He still loves you. He understands you. He knows your every weakness. He wants to have a relationship with you so much that He suffered, bled and died for you.
You stand up for the Lord Jesus Christ and this world will come down on you like a hammer. James 4:4 says that "friendship of the world is enmity with God." There comes a time in every believer's life when he draws a line and says, "I don't care what others say. I don't care what others think. I am standing up for Jesus."
The Future Factor
Jesus taught us to pray, "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven" (Matthew 6:10). When Jesus came the first time, He came as a baby. When He comes again, He comes as a King. One day those swaddling clothes will be exchanged for a robe woven on looms of light. He's on His way.
If I had a thousand lives I'd give God every one, will you give Him your life today? "He came unto His own, and His own received Him not. But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God" (John 1:11-13).
You can be saved today by repenting of your sin and believing upon Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Pray a prayer like this: Lord Jesus, there's room in my heart for You. Forgive me. I recognize that I am a sinner in need of a Savior. Save me. Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God. I believe You paid my sin debt with Your blood on the cross. I believe that God raised You from the dead. Make me clean. I want to have a relationship with You forever.
Did you ask Him to save you? If you did, I would love to hear from you today. Please write me: Adrian Rogers, Love Worth Finding Ministries, 2941 Kate Bond Road, Memphis, Tennessee 38133. God bless you this Christmas.
Just as plants need certain essentials to grow---light, water, and fertile soil---so do new Christians, babes in the faith. Without these essential basic truths of the faith, they will never establish strong roots or bear fruit.Adrian Rogers has written this book to give believers the nurture and care their faith needs to blossom and grow. What Every Christian Ought to Know seeks to give intellectual truth, and also provide the "spiritual nutrients" required to produce mature faith.
