Have you ever felt absolutely impotent — bound with your hands behind your back, tied up, gagged, unable to move or to speak? Bound by a situation? Told to be quiet, to shut your mouth as you are turned a deaf ear?
The person needs Jesus. The situation needs His help. Things could change if only they would listen and do what God says.
Yet you’ve been gagged (because they don’t want to hear the Truth), and the person or persons get farther and farther away from God and, thus, away from help.
You’ve tried to rescue them — but they won’t be rescued by you.
Or they would be rescued by you — rescued by anyone — but there is no one who can help because the death sentence has already been written. Yes, maybe by man, but not by God because they are still alive.
What are you going to do? You may feel, or you may even be, bound and gagged in the human sphere, but, Beloved, you are not with God! Never! If you are bound, is it by your own willful sin and disobedience. Confess it and get back on “hearing” ground.
You are not impotent! You can pray! You may not be able to speak to man, but you can speak to God.
Man may not hear you, but God’s ear is not “so dull that it cannot hear” (Isaiah 59:1).
You may not be able to save them from death, but their times are in His hands (Psalm 31:15). He has the keys to hell and death — no one can open what He shuts or shut what He opens (Revelation 1:18; 3:7).
You may not be able to heal, but God can send His word and heal them (Psalm 107:20).
The One who sits at the right hand of God, ever living to make intercession, is the same One who healed the sick, opened the eyes of the blind, made the deaf to hear, the lame to walk...and raised the dead.
This is your God, our God who bids us to...call upon the name of the Lord in the day of trouble that He might rescue us, and to...cast all of our anxiety upon Him because He cares for us.
This is your God, our God who is our Rock who does not move or change, cleft for us that we might have a hiding place, our Refuge, our ever present Help in the time of trouble.
You cannot rescue for you are mere man, but God can because He it totally God. He cannot be bound. He does according to His will in the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth (Daniel 4:35).
So pray, and do not stop. Pray and listen.
When you have persistently committed it to God and have done whatever He directed you to do, which may be to do nothing but pray, then...you have done all that can be done...all that needs to be done by you. And God...in His time, in His way...will have His way.
And because God is who He is, whatever happens will be good, acceptable, and perfect. You may not see that now, understand that now, but someday you will.
God can be trusted.
To know all this, Beloved, and to be able to live this way, is your birthright as a child of the Almighty Sovereign Ruler of the universe — He is the one you call “Abba.” You are a child who, believe it or not, is very precious to Him...and you always will be.
You are loved. You are heard when you pray — so pray. Jesus said that we should prayand not lose heart (see Luke 18:1-8).
Keep on praying my friend, and don’t lose heart!
In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul prays God will “open the eyes of their hearts” to know “what is the hope of His calling” on their lives. Learn how to walk in a manner worthy of this holy calling.
