In Luke 5:4-7 it says, When Jesus had finished speaking, he told Simon, “Row the boat out into the deep water and let your nets down to catch some fish.” “Master,” Simon answered. “we’ve worked hard all night long and have not caught a thing. But if you tell me to, I will let the nets down.” They did it and caught so many fish that their nets began ripping apart. And they signaled for their partners and the other boat to come and help them. The men came, and together they filled the two boats so full that they both began to sink.

Life is good when we deal constructively with the disappointments of life. All of us are going to be challenged by various things in our lives. You can call them disappointments. You can call them problems. You can call them challenges. You can call them trials. You can call them tribulation. You can call it suffering. There are a lot of words for it, but it is all the same.

Life is good when we persevere through the problems and challenges of life. The story in Luke is about Jesus and some fishermen. And the fact that Jesus says to them essentially this, “Don’t give up. Try again.”

I believe that Jesus’ words ring true today as they did almost two thousand years ago. I think that Jesus would say to us, “Cast out your nets again.” Do not give up. Do not give in to the disappointment that you may feel. Refuse to consider quitting. Don’t allow that to even be an option in your life. Try again!

Peter listened to Jesus, and look what happened. They caught so many fish their nets began ripping apart. They had to signal for their partners to come and help them. Wow! What a turnaround from zero to such an incredible catch they couldn’t even handle it. All because they listened to Jesus, refused to give into discouragement and kept trying. So can you.
