James Merritt is the host of Touching Lives and widely recognized as one of the most passionate and inspiring preachers on air today. With unwavering dedication, Dr. Merritt shares the profound truths of God in a way that is both clear and concise. His burning desire is to touch the lives of lost souls around the globe, offering them the transformative and life-saving message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Dr. Merritt's educational background includes an undergraduate degree from Stetson University, as well as Master of Divinity and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Throughout his career, he has served as a pastor in various churches across Kentucky, Mississippi, and Georgia.

From 2000 to 2002, Dr. Merritt had the distinct honor of serving as the President of the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest Protestant denomination in the world. His impact extends beyond the pulpit, as he has made appearances on television programs such as Hannity and Colmes, Scarborough Country, and 60 Minutes.

Married to his devoted wife Teresa since 1976, Dr. Merritt is a proud father of three sons, two daughters-in-law, and the joyful grandfather of five precious grandchildren.
