“If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.”

--John 13:14

Jesus gave us the command to wash one another’s feet. Some have suggested that this was an ordinance of the church that ought to be practiced customarily.

Yet when you examine the text you realize that Jesus is giving us an example here and not an ordinance. He is giving us a demonstration of what a servant of God is like and what a servant of God does.

Jesus is instructing us to submit our lives to one another and serve one another like He served us. He wants you and me to love like He loved.

In John 13:34, Jesus said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”

Jesus showed us a new kind of love! It was a love that had never been expressed or experienced before. And He wants us to show that same love to those around us!

Today I’d like to ask you, who is someone you could serve unselfishly? Whoever it is that God brings to mind, I urge you to go out of your way today to show them the love of Christ… to be the servant Jesus wants you to be.

JESUS WANTS YOU TO LOVE LIKE HE LOVED.
