For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

--Isaiah 9:6

I once read an article from the Dallas Morning News in which the headline read, “Abandoned.” The story described the aged in the communities across the state of Texas who are often abandoned, alone, and afraid. It said:

“They are invisible so often and unnoticed. They are downtown street people and they are Park Cities millionaires. They’ve won Purple Hearts and they’ve won Pillsbury bakeoffs. They’re among Dallas County’s most vulnerable, they’re very lives collapsing as their minds and bodies fail… And someday they could be you!”

So many senior citizens need grace and comfort from others. But most of all, they need an Everlasting Father as we do. Many people in our world today are abandoned and alone — not just senior citizens. Everyone needs a spiritual father, an eternal future, and a personal faith. And the Lord provides us with that as our Everlasting Father.

To some, this verse above would be a startling description of Jesus the Son who is called the Everlasting Father, the “Source or Originator of Eternity.” How can the Child be the Father? This Infinite Who became an Infant — and He is the Almighty God, Ancient of Days, and Great I Am. Wonderful Counselor speaks of the humanity of Jesus, Mighty God speaks of His deity, and Everlasting Father speaks of His eternality.

In each person, there is a craving for life and eternity, and to know the originator of all life — our Creator. This season, you can know the Everlasting Father through salvation, you can have an eternal future if you put your faith and trust in Him, and you can have a personal faith where you will be welcomed into the Father’s house now and forever.

THE ALMIGHTY GOD, ANCIENT OF DAYS, AND GREAT I AM CAME TO EARTH AS A BABY TO GIVE US ETERNAL LIFE AND A PERSONAL FAITH THROUGH HIM.
