They are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great power and by your strong hand.

--Nehemiah 1:10

Today I want to help you understand that as Christians, we are absolutely dependent upon the Lord. We’re spiritually, physically, emotionally, and psychologically dependent upon His grace.

Some people say that Christianity is just a crutch for weak people to lean on, but I say it’s more like an iron lung! We can’t live effectively without it! In Him we live and move and have our being.

Many times we don’t sincerely believe that we’re dependent upon God. But Nehemiah displayed his complete dependence on the Lord by fasting while he prayed and weeping because of his broken heart.

You know, I’ll never forget attending the Southern Baptist Convention in 1990. President George H.W. Bush addressed us and shared about his heart-wrenching decision to send troops into the Gulf War. I saw true, genuine tears fall from his eyes as he recounted his prayer time the night before he sent the troops into battle.

In today’s society, we’re told that real men don’t cry. I say that godly men can’t go on very long without doing some crying! The greatest man or woman is the one who battles on his knees and from his broken heart.

DO YOU SINCERELY BELIEVE THAT YOU’RE DEPENDENT UPON GOD?
