Then Moses was afraid, and thought, “Surely the thing is known.”

--Exodus 2:14

There’s nothing more frustrating than trying to do something with good intentions, only to discover that what you did was not the right thing at the right time. That’s exactly what happened to Moses before God called him into service.

Moses was a high-ranking member of Egyptian society since he was raised in the palace of the Pharaoh. But even though he was well-cultured in the local way of life, he was Jewish…and he had a heart for the suffering of his people.

One day, Moses saw an Egyptian beating a Jewish slave. Overcome with anger, Moses ran over and killed the Egyptian.

Moses realized later that his deed was known, and that the Pharaoh would be out for his head. So he fled to the wilderness in fear. You see, Moses was genuinely concerned for the Jewish people, but he reacted in his own strength…and failed.

Instead of waiting for the Lord’s timing to free the Hebrew slaves, Moses took matters into his own hands. The result was that Moses went from living a charmed life in a palace to being an outlaw roaming a desolate and foreign land before he could be used for God’s service.

Like Moses, you and I can often be tempted to do things in our own time and in our own way. It can be very difficult to wait for God’s timing and leading. So I challenge you today to learn from Moses’ mistake.

Make sure you hear from God before attempting to do something for God!

WAIT FOR GOD’S TIMING INSTEAD OF TRYING TO DO THINGS IN YOUR own STRENGTH.
