“God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”  Submit yourselves therefore to God.

--James 4:6-7

In Nehemiah chapter 9, we see God’s people fasting, praying, and approaching God with sincerity and humility.

They weren’t concerned with their self-esteem, but came confessing their sins and seeking forgiveness. God accepts our worship when we come to Him with true humility that recognizes our total dependence on Him.

How do you feel when you’re dealing with a proud, arrogant person? Most of us are frustrated when we meet people who are so full of themselves that they don’t even think of anyone else.

It’s unfortunate that true brokenness is considered a weakness in today’s society. To God, however, our brokenness shows true strength in Him. When we come before God and rid ourselves of selfishness and pride, He gives us immeasurable strength to continue in His name.

We actually become much stronger and more capable when we approach the Lord with humility!

What about you? Are you living with pride today? You don’t have to be arrogant or parade your accomplishments to be proud. Pride is simply saying “No” to God because we think we have a better plan.

Ask God to help you approach Him with a broken, humble spirit today…and allow Him to give you a new measure of strength in your life today!

humility before god is essential if you are to gain his strength in your life.
