The true price of your forgiveness

December 2, 2010

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us… so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.

Galatians 3:13-14

What does ‘forgiveness' mean? If someone steals $10 from you and I tell them "I forgive you," that really doesn't mean much now, does it? But if you are the one to say "I forgive you" and allow them to keep the $10, that means so much more!

True forgiveness always costs the forgiver. In the case above, you forgiving the person who stole your money cost you $10. And not only that, the thief gained $10 that he didn't have before and doesn't deserve!

That's just a small picture of the grace of Christ. At the cross that day 2000 years ago, a divine exchange took place. Jesus Christ took on the curse that belonged to us and everything that went with it while we received the righteousness and blessing that belonged to him. What a remarkable example of true forgiveness!

So remember, the righteousness that you now have in Christ, the blessings you enjoy, and the Spirit you received might have been free to you. But they came at a tremendous price to God, who gave up his only son so that we could have eternal life with him.

THANK GOD FOR HIS BLESSINGS WHICH ARE FREE TO YOU BUT CAME AT A TREMENDOUS PRICE TO HIM.
