As soon as his master heard the words that his wife spoke to him, “This is the way your servant treated me,” his anger was kindled. And Joseph's master took him and put him into the prison, the place where the king's prisoners were confined, and he was there in prison.

--Genesis 39:19-20

We have an acute sense of justice and fairness, don’t we? It’s innate within each one of us.

We have the idea…and it’s a good idea…that when someone does the right thing, they’ll be rewarded. We also have the idea that when someone does something wrong, they’ll be punished.

But it doesn’t always work that way, does it?

It certainly didn’t work that way in the life of Joseph. He was treated unfairly so many times…he was mistreated and misrepresented…and he ended up in prison—not for doing the wrong thing, but for doing the right thing!

Joseph is the classic example of someone who responded with faithfulness to God and faithfulness to his convictions in spite of the circumstances of his life. And as far as we are told in the Scripture, he did it without complaining or compromising and with great contentment!

Whether it was in times of adversity or in times of prosperity, Joseph was faithful to God.

So what about you? Are you experiencing a time of adversity right now…whether your fault or not?

If so, what’s your reaction to God look like? Have you been complaining and anxious and upset? Or have you, like Joseph, remained content despite your circumstances?

Remember, God can give you peace and contentment no matter what you may be going through. So lean on Him today!

be faithful to god regardless of your circumstances.
